Born in Great Bradley in 1894, Alfred Frederick John Mills (Risbridge Q4-1894 4A:724), son of Alfred and Annie MILLS (née FINCH). 1901 census...Aged 6, he was in Little Ditton, Woodditton, with his father Alfred MILLS [29], engine driver portable, born Great Bradley; his mother Annie [27] born Great Bradley; sister Florrie [8] born Great Bradley; sisters Ellen [3] and Emily [1] born Woodditton. 1911 census...Aged 16, a farm labourer, he was at Houghton Green, Woodditton, with his parents, sister Emily and brothers Edward Walter [3] and Sidney James [6 months] born in Woodditton. One of the six children had died. Frederick is recorded here as born in Woodditton. |

Enlisted in Newmarket. With his service records not being found, it is impossible to say exactly where and when he was wounded. He died the day before the German Spring Offensive. The battalion lost no men to fighting that day, reflecting perhaps that his battalion was in support at the time, working parties digging and repairing trenches on 20th March. |
